Museum Administration Certificate

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Degree Programs

The Graduate Certificate in Museum Administration is a 15-credit program that prepares students for successful careers in museums, archives, historic sites or science centers by emphasizing administration, curatorship, collections management, exhibit interpretation, fund development and education, through high quality instruction, research, and practical application.

This program offers a cutting edge approach to Museum Administration whereby the coursework considers how museums, archives, historic sites and science centers are currently working to reinvent themselves. As audiences look for institutions to make room for voices and narratives that historically have been left out, museums, archives, historic sites and science centers must become generators of discourse that can disrupt the dominant social narratives that exist within their communities and societies. This program is designed to prepare future leaders with theoretically informed and socially engaged application to face these challenges and create museums of the future.

This certificate is designed for those who have earned a bachelor’s degree in fields such as arts and literature, humanities, history, sciences, and more, but wish to take rigorous master’s level courses related to the administration/management of museums, archives, historic sites or science centers. Current Master of Public Administration students can select museum administration courses under the 12-credit electives requirements, and earn the certificate.
